Description

Available is a vintage 1950's Harold Clayton wooden framed print on canvas of a still life featuring Spring flowers in a Wedgwood vase. Harold Clayton was born in 1896 in London, England and went on to study at Hornsey College of Art. He focused on graphic design and commercial art and then studied at the St. Martin?s School of Art under the painter Norman Jones - eventually exhibiting at the Royal Academy in London during his lifetime. Best known for his depictions of flower arrangements in ornate vases, he painted with detailed techniques in the style and compositions of 16th Century Dutch and Flemish floral still-life painters. A keen gardener himself, his paintings typically detail young blooms which he arranged with varied flower heads reaching upwards in central positions arranged within a variety of attractive vases. Clayton painted approximately one painting per month and his originals have been sold by Sotheby's auctioneers in the 1990's and most recently in 2017. This gilt framed print is on an over-varnished canvas and is in very good original condition. Measurements: 66 cm x 76 cm (4.5 cm depth of frame) Any questions, please ask.
